The gap between working out and training
Plenty of people work hard in the gym for years and look the same as the day they started. Effort is not the missing piece. Direction is. Training means every session has a purpose, every exercise has a reason, and the weights, sets, and food all point at the same goal.
That is what I do. I am Lawrence Gordon, a personal trainer and competitive Men’s Physique athlete in the Alton and Godfrey area. In June 2026 I won the NPC Missouri State Men’s Physique Overall Championship. I coach everyday clients with the same system I use to prepare for the stage, scaled to fit real jobs, real families, and real schedules.
What clients come to me for
- Strength and muscle. Progressive programming that adds weight to the bar and size where you want it.
- Body recomposition. Losing fat while keeping or building muscle, managed with data instead of crash diets.
- Starting from zero. Learning the fundamentals properly, in an environment where nobody is judging your starting point.
- Getting unstuck. Experienced lifters who stopped progressing and want a trained eye on their program and technique.
The U FIT philosophy
I co-own U FIT Fitness and Wellness, and the gym runs on accessibility. People can try group sessions before committing to anything, beginners are met at their level, and nobody has ever been made to feel like an outsider for being new. That same posture carries into personal training: honest coaching, zero intimidation.
If you have been waiting to be “in shape enough” to hire a trainer, this is your sign that the requirement does not exist. Apply here and tell me where you are starting from.
