The gap between working out and training

Plenty of people work hard in the gym for years and look the same as the day they started. Effort is not the missing piece. Direction is. Training means every session has a purpose, every exercise has a reason, and the weights, sets, and food all point at the same goal.

That is what I do. I am Lawrence Gordon, a personal trainer and competitive Men’s Physique athlete in the Alton and Godfrey area. In June 2026 I won the NPC Missouri State Men’s Physique Overall Championship. I coach everyday clients with the same system I use to prepare for the stage, scaled to fit real jobs, real families, and real schedules.

The U FIT philosophy

I co-own U FIT Fitness and Wellness, and the gym runs on accessibility. People can try group sessions before committing to anything, beginners are met at their level, and nobody has ever been made to feel like an outsider for being new. That same posture carries into personal training: honest coaching, zero intimidation.

How it works

  1. A real conversation

    Goals, history, injuries, schedule, and what has not worked before. No sales pitch, no shame about where you are starting from.

  2. Your program

    Training built around your body and your calendar. Three days a week done consistently beats six days a week done twice.

  3. Coached sessions

    Form taught properly from day one, weights progressed at your pace, and adjustments made in the room, not after an injury.

  4. Progress you can see

    We track what matters for your goal: strength numbers, measurements, photos, or how your clothes fit. Data decides, not moods.

Questions, answered

I have never lifted weights. Is that a problem?

It is an advantage. You have no bad habits to unlearn. Beginners make the fastest visible progress of anyone I coach, and my gym was built to be a low-pressure place to start.

Do I have to follow a strict diet?

No. Training comes with practical food guidance matched to your goal. If you want full nutrition coaching we can add it, but nobody is handed a punishing meal plan on day one.

Where do sessions happen?

In person in the Alton and Godfrey, Illinois area, or online with programming and video check-ins if you train elsewhere.

How is this different from a gym membership with a trainer?

You are coached by the person who designs your program, and that person competes and wins at the state level. The plan, the coaching, and the accountability all come from one place.
