Train like an athlete, at any age.

Structured strength and conditioning for adults who want to be strong, capable, and hard to injure, not just tired. Built around your body, your schedule, and your starting point.

Strength is a skill, and conditioning is a base

I’m Lawrence Gordon, Coach JR, a personal trainer and competitive athlete in the Alton and Godfrey area. Adults come to me for one of two reasons: they want to get genuinely strong, or they want to feel athletic again. Usually both. Adult strength and conditioning is how we get there. We build strength in the movements that matter, then add the conditioning that lets you use it without gassing out.

This is training for capability. Picking up your kids, carrying your own groceries, hiking a trail, playing a weekend sport, and still having something left at the end of the day.

What “strength and conditioning” actually means here

Who this is for

Beginners who have never touched a barbell and want to start right. Former athletes who miss feeling capable. Parents rebuilding after years of putting everyone else first. Lifters over forty who want to keep training hard without breaking down. You do not need to be fit to start. You need a plan and a coach who watches the reps.

Coached, not just programmed

Anyone can hand you a spreadsheet. Adult strength and conditioning here means coached sessions where form is taught from day one, weights are progressed at your pace, and adjustments happen in the room instead of after an injury. Training happens in person in the Alton and Godfrey area, one on one or in small groups, with online programming and video check-ins for adults who train elsewhere.

I hold myself to the same standards I set for you. I train year round and I compete, and in June 2026 I won the NPC Missouri State Men’s Physique Overall Championship. That is not the point of your training. It is just proof that the system works when you run it honestly.

How it works

  1. Honest assessment

We look at how you move, what hurts, what you have done before, and what you actually want. The plan starts from facts, not guesses.

  2. Build the base

Strength in the core patterns with strict technique, plus conditioning that raises your work capacity. Strong first, everything else follows.

  3. Add the engine

Once the foundation holds, we layer in conditioning and durability work matched to your goals and the sports or hobbies you actually do.

  4. Progress on purpose

Numbers, measurements, and how you feel decide the next move. Small, steady progressions beat heroic weeks that end in a tweak.

Questions, answered

How is this different from personal training?

Same coach, different emphasis. Personal training is the one on one format. Strength and conditioning is the method: building real strength and work capacity, not just chasing a look. Most clients get both in one plan.

I am over forty. Is it too late to start?

No. Strength and conditioning is one of the best things you can do at any age, and it becomes more important as you get older, not less. We match the loading and the recovery to you.

I have never lifted weights. Will I be lost?

You will be coached. Beginners often make the fastest progress because there are no bad habits to undo. Every lift is taught from the ground up, at your pace.

Can we train online?

Yes. You get programming, video review, and check-ins from anywhere. I have coached remotely since 2020.
